Steps in Manufacturing Wool Pellets

  • Shearing:The wool fleece is carefully sheared from the sheep in a single, large piece, preserving its natural integrity.
  • Shredding: The fleece is then cut into smaller, manageable pieces, preparing it to be processed through the pellet machine.
  • Pelletizing: The shredded wool is fed into the pellet machine, where it is compressed and heated as it passes through a pellet die. The spinning action of the machine creates uniform pellets by compressing the wool shreds into solid, compact forms.
  • Final Product: The wool pellets are now ready to be applied to soil, where they can be used to enhance soil health and improve plant growth.

    Using Wool Pellets in Soil

      Indoor Plants:

    • Preparation: For existing pots, gently remove the top 2 inches of soil if possible.
    • Application: Apply wool pellets based on the size of the pot. After applying, replace the removed soil, covering the pellets completely.
    • Watering: Water the plant thoroughly. If any pellets surface, you can either push them back into the soil or leave them on the surface.

      Outdoor Pots or Garden Application:

    • Planting: Dig a hole appropriate for the size of your plant.
    • Application: Place wool pellets at the bottom of the hole, adjusting the amount based on the pot size and plant root base for optimal results.
    • Covering and Watering: Fill in the hole with soil around the plant and water thoroughly. If any pellets surface, either push them back into the soil or leave them on the surface.

      Using Wool Shreds as Mulch:

    • Application: Spread wool shreds around the base of your plants, creating a layer approximately 5 to 6 inches thick.
    • Benefits: This layer will help suppress weeds and deter pests like slugs and snails, thanks to the barbs in the wool fibers and natural oils that may irritate their skin.
